In case folks haven't seen it yet...

Since this forum deals with prep for a security exam, it seemed the most prudent place to place this heads up. Coincidentally, there are a few new security patches available, so update your stuff folks.
And if you're running any kind of broadband connection, I hope to god you're running a firewall

Personally I wouldn't run any system on a permanent connection without a firewall. Actually even on my old dialup I used to run one as I could be online for hours.
Not sure exactly what the exploit that works on all windows systems, however some playing around a while back and I found many windows exploits also worked on Linux & Mac - just need some fine tuning for the different OS.www.supercross.com

Drakonblayde Member Posts: 542Oh yeah, after seeing what a few friends could do to an unprotected computer, I am a very firm believer in a nice locked down firewall.
From the looks of it, this one was a rather severe security hole, and it's a major embarrassment for Microsoft, not only after their entire 'Trustworthy Computing' marketing strategy, but to be nailed with it the day after the U.S. Government gives them a fat contract..... I suppose they should be thanking their lucky stars it didn't get released the day before hehe= Marcus Drakonblayde

RussS Member Posts: 2,068 ■■■□□□□□□□I would rather not mention exploits, but after a little investigation I think that it is more embarassing than anything else. Can be closed up even without help from MS.www.supercross.com
