Switching jobs with paycut?

Success101Success101 Member Posts: 132
Question - If you absolutely dreaded your current job because of lack of mental simulation, boss, co-workers...would you switch to another position that offers more experience, knowledge, etc but the pay is $6k lower than current?

Definitely. Enjoying what you do is worth a couple hundred bucks a month unless you absolutely need it to pay your bills.

If you can afford it I say yes, as I've dreaded jobs before, and the thought of dragging myself into work tomorrow ruining today was awful. If there is more experience there as well, you'll probably see a return on those lost wages when that experience helps you through the interview of a great paying job.

Definitely would and I have done that for the very reasons you mention. Took a bit pay hit too. It was such a liberating feeling quitting on the spot and walking away. Life is just too short.

I took about a 17k cut going into IT. It was well worth it though and would do it again.

Yes it is worth it. I used to get paid $17/hr for a call center job for 5 years and i think i got Post traumatic stress disorder dealing with customers over the phone. I found a job paying $11/hr as an IT help desk job and it saved my life. icon_thumright.gif

Work is about more then just the pay check. If better opportunities are presented somewhere else consider all of your options. Sometimes you need the cash but other times it's just not that important.

I make a lot more working on cars as a mechanic, I'm about to make the switch to the IT world and taking a big pay cut. I hope it pays off in the end

Yes do it. I'm actually about thinking of doing the same in the next month or so. Always follow your passion and what drives you.

Really hard to put a price on happiness and job satisfaction... as long as you make enough to cover your obligations then go for it!

Yes, as long as my living cost was still met.

If you really love what you are doing then it should be the right thing to have patience, sometimes we have to deal with the realization that somethings don't happened overnight. I myself don't get payed the kind of money to pay bills and I don't mind that not because I don't need the money but I believe it's going to be worth it at the end well at least hope so and I think that's where I will be exposed to the light of IT.
