2 years experience for CEH
Hi
I plan on taking this exam but it is on a long list so isn't iminant. By september next year I will have been the network administrator at the school I work at for 2 years.
I am the only guy here with any technical knowledge so do everything from building the machines to maintaining the server and locking it down against atacks.
Will the two years I have served at the school be enough to allow me to take this exam? I understand that I have not been working for a specfic security organisation, however I do have to maintain and keep a network running which obviosly involves the subject of security. Plus the fact that I have 800 13 year tech savvy kids trying to pro rat my systems. < Little blighters
Thanks for any responses

Ten9t6 Member Posts: 691this would depend on how you word your resume, when you send it to them. I am not saying you lie.....If you have been a network admin for two years, you should have been doing security stuff during that time frame....Access control, Antivirus, Firewalls, Access lists on devices, pen testing your network...and so on.

I thought this was going to be the answer, I understand its not lying but unless they give you specfic criteria for exactly what they mean by security experince I guess I can word my cv i such a way that is favorable with them.

Webmaster Admin Posts: 10,292 AdminI heard being Security+ certified, or having other basics infosec certs helps a lot to get the approval.

tkdvipers Member Posts: 9 ■□□□□□□□□□I am going to do sec+ before the ceh. and hopefully most of an mcse. I have had to sit down and draw a map of the way I want to go with certs so I can visually see what I am trying to achieve.
When I do make my overall job < security specialist or ethical hacker I will still do certs. I find it pretty fun

milliamp Member Posts: 135I vote that 2 years in network administration = 2 years in security.
Very few people have jobs that deal _only_ with security and the people that do usually have > 10 years of experience. Those jobs also typicially require security certifications to get in the door.
I am sure the CEH and CISSP people probably know that. -
keatron Member Posts: 1,213 ■■■■■■□□□□Well don't be so quick the lump the C|EH people and ISC2 people in one group. Trust me, the CISSP requirements are tons more strict and tons more enforced compared to C|EH. And if you get audited? You better make dang sure everything you put on that application is 100% true and verifiable.

Webmaster Admin Posts: 10,292 AdminI agree, 2 years experience for CEH is not the same as 2 years experience for CISSP. The latter requires 'direct full-time security professional' experience. CEH basically requires infosec 'related' experience. A sys admin or network admin with a couple of years of experience, and as mentioned and confirmed above, some security certs, won't have any trouble getting the approval.
