line protocol

i have line protocol down on serial interface. that is the error what should i do to bring up that interface. i have done no shut in the interface configuration command but it is comming up for a while and going down again.

Like the hundred other times this same question has been asked.
First try adding a clock rate to the DCE serial interface.
To find out the DCE int
show controllers s 0

to add clocking

int s0
clock rate 64000

if i configure my s0 first with no shut command and then i realize that i have to configure clock rate and i did so it doesnt make any difference. i.e i have to configure first clock rate and then i have to go for other things. :

If you search the forum you will find this question asked and answered in
multiple ways,im sure if you make some effort in reading the other threads you will discover your fault be it hardware for configuration.

assign your ip info first, then the clock rate (not sure if it makes a difference which way around it is done?)

eg.

int s0
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.255.0
clock-rate 64000

Also make sure the DCT end of the cable is plugged into your serial port not the DTE and that it is seated properly. Do you have another DTE/DCE cable you can try?

Hey there,

It could be a number of things, mismatched encapsulations, clocking, IPs...
Are you connecting to a switch or another router? But just go thru the normal troublshooting. Most likely it will be something simple....
