Asif Dasl & myself took a visit to our local VMware User Group last week. I thought it was pretty interesting given the presentations on hand (vCHS & Pernix Data) and will definitely be attending again.

Just wanted to see what your local VMUG was like and what sort of presentations had been shown before?

VMUG's are great because of two things - the opportunity to network and learn. I go there primarily to network, you get to put your name out there. Usually, some industry stalwarts are also present - the kind of people you want to hang out with! I've met Chris Wahl, Scott Lowe, Nick Marshall, Josh Odgers, Alastair Cooke and many more at my local Melbourne VMUG and the vUser Conference.

At the last VMUG, they talked about VSAN, Nutanix's hyper-converged platform, Pure Storage's all-flash arrays, Tintri's hypervisor. There was a free-for-all panel discussion where you could ask questions, a very interactive session. Then the Salvation Army did a 30 min presso about how they manage their IT in various parts of the globe, very interesting.

Whether you are a virtualization enthusiast or expert, VMUG's are a great place to be. Highly recommended.

I am a big fan of the #LonVMUG as I have met a number of fellow bloggers and big names at both the London and UK VMUG.

Well worth getting involved and if you don't have one locally then do the next best thing and organise one yourself (VMUG are more than willing to discuss this with you as a couple of friends recently started one here in the UK.

The VMUG seems to be a good place to network and know what companies are doing with VMware. I signed up with the Wellington VMUG very recently and came to know that the group was looking for assistance with setting up meetings and general administration. I signed up to be the co-leader and have my leadership training come up soon !

I'm a huge advocate for VMUG, I've attended ever since I heard about them. Gone to everyone and met so many great people. It's been a little quiet in presentations this year, but they are wanting to have a large all day event this year at some point. I had even organised to go to Melbourne's VMUG Conference this year, but work got in the way.

Do it, you won't look back!

Went to my first vmug event last fall - going to the KC one in June. It's a great event, you get to see some cool things and network.
