CCNA INTRO -- Advice

certmagnetcertmagnet Member Posts: 13 ■□□□□□□□□□
I'm taking the INTRO tomorrow -- any advice on things to be sure to study or testing advice in general? Any online practice that may be helpful (saw the INTRO on the front of this -- thanks/very helpful!)

Thanks!

In all honesty, this is NOT the type of question you should be asking right before walking into the testing center. icon_rolleyes.gif If you are asking this now, I really don't know what to tell you. Why not just practice some subnetting puzzles until the test, and maybe look at the glossary a couple times. You are either ready now or you aren't.

I've been studying for a while now with help of some CCIEs/CCNPs but was looking for any last minute tips/words of encouragement from those who have recently taken it!

optimus is right though, it's kinda late to ask about what you should study. The best advice I can give you is to relax and make the best of it. If you know your stuff it is not that difficult.

    Good luck!

I was looking for any last minute tips. I've read Todd L's full CCNA book to get the full picture + Cisco's INTRO book to focus on that section and gone through tons of Q&As I've found...I think I'm ready! Relax as you said and we'll be good!

That's the best combination of books for the CCNA exam(s) imo.

The day before the exam is not too late to study, it is when I do my best work :)

Try to identify areas you are weak in if you have not already done so and work to improve on them.

1 day is enough time to reread the 3 chapters in your book that you think you are the weakest on.

If you took notes on the exam, you can go over them.

Look at the objectives online, see if there is anything listed that you don't think you study material covered well enough and go over it quickly.

For the next exam, the day before the exam is a good time to redo the sim scenarios for setting up RIP/IGRP/EIGRP/OSPF/VLANs/VTP etc. And all the WAN protocols.

When I am a long way out from the exam it is hard to keep myself motivated, but in the 24 or 48 hours before I sit the exam I am an animal.

I think this is excellent advice, go over the sim scenarios until you are comfortable with each of the topics milliamp lists here, because no matter how well you know this stuff it is easy to choke durring the test.

I get motivated as soon as I've paid the $125 for the test and I have the red X on the calander (which is usually about a week ahead of time).

You will have to be prepared to handle the time limit. You should be really good on your strongest topics ,that when you get one, you should be able to answer really fast. This will give you space to spend some time on the difficult ones.

If you have 50 questions and 2 hrs, make sure that you finish 25 within an hour. If you break it like that you will be in clontrol.

Just relax.... you are going to make it.

I passed it -- now on to the hard section (so I hear!) :)

Thanks to everyone for their help/support!

Congrats! And good luck with the ICND part. It does indeed cover the harder topics, but the advantage of taking the two ccna route is that you now can concentrate on those topics.

The advice I have is just to study up as much as you can -- the last week really go at it hard. Read Odom's book at the CCNA book by Lammale and you'll be fine I believe.

As milliamp said, read up the last 24 hours on what you don't know.

I'd also go over questions form Cisco's CCNA Prep Center on their website if you can do that. That was helpful here.

Overall, there were some Qs that I wasn't sure of obviously, but it wasn't so bad. Know subnetting in and out -- be sure you get those as those can be easy points.

    Hi all,

I'm taking my Intro exam on Jan 9th. I've already read the Intro book twice, used The Bryant Advantage subnetting course, and bought Transcender practice exams. I also have some routers at home that I've been practicing commands on. I used Transcender on my last two certs and had great results. I felt pretty confident scoring 100's on the Transcender exams until I started using ****.com online demo tests. These questions are WAY more challenging (especially subnetting).

Has anyone had good luck with using ****.com's practice exams to prep for the Intro or ICND tests? I really don't want to spend anymore money on practice tests if I can help it.

    Thanks,
