I've been an SE (virtualization/cloud space) for almost a year now. Funny thing is, I had relatively no experience in a production environment coming into this role (outside of my education) compared to most of the counterparts in my field... and I am not afraid to share that with my prospective customers, because frankly... I've found it doesn't matter.
I never saw myself taking this path but in hindsight I can't imagine myself in a tech role that ISN'T customer facing in some aspect.
