So I have decided to pursue a management positon and work my way up the chain. A little background:
Title: Lead Client Support Analyst - desktop support position (troubleshoot, imaging, etc.)
Previous Title: Systems/Network Administrator
Education: About 70-80% complete AS Computer Networking
Certs: Network Technician (from my local community college)
Years in IT: 6.5 years
My previous job I was the "IT Guy". They did not want to give me a title but I was responsible for all IT related matters. One of the many reasons why I left what could have been a great situation. I have a combined 3 years managing/supervising other people (temps, interns, other employees).
I see a lot of job openings out there that match what I am looking for that I would meet the most of the requirements (I am willing to move). But I think it would look great if I had a BS to go along with it. A lot of what I have completed at my community college should be transferrable to WGU. I just dont know if I should for for the BSIT or BSIT Management.
Do any of you have any similar experiences? What about moving up to management with no degree and very few certifications?

As of which, I don't really have any advice but I imagine that either of the degrees would be fine. From what I can tell from the degree requirements at the WGU web site, the BSIT seem more interesting although if you have not been exposed to accounting or finance topics before, the BSIT Management may be more appropriate.
As for moving into management without a degree or certification, I suspect that most people on TE will advise that it's a lot more difficult without that checkbox. There will always be the rare exceptions where people make it into management without a degree or certifications and may even excel at it. But those are rare exceptions. Given that you are so close to completing the degree, my general advice is to complete it now while you are able and you are motivated. You do not want to look back in 20 years and wish you had finished the degree. -

Applied for FAFSA earlier this week and WGU should receive my transcripts next week (my college doesnt do them electronically apparently). My FAFSA EFC is 016276... so I doubt I'll be able to get free funding. Guess its loans or no BS
