I'm taking my Organizational Behavior class and I am bored as all hell. I can't read this stuff... It's for a BS: IT Mgmt degree, has anyone else ever taken this class? Has anyone ever 'accelerated' by just clicking the check box and praying they pass the assessment?

anoeljr Member Posts: 278 ■■■□□□□□□□Don't worry, I felt the exact same way about that class. To tell you the truth, I mainly just skimmed the book and was able to pass the test. Most of it seemed to be common sense really. It isn't that hard and the cut score was pretty low when I took it, like a 51 or something. I scored in the 70s. Have you taken the pre-assessment yet? If not, I'd suggest doing that to see where you're at. Depending on your score, you might not have to slug through the entire course.

xiny Member Posts: 46 ■■□□□□□□□□I hear ya, passed the Organizational Behvaior and Principles of Management class just recently.
Passing these exams isn't all the difficult, i passed them by learning the definitions in each chapter and paying close attention to any charts/graphs.
If it helps you can use my study notes for that course, it's basically all the definitions rolled up by chapter.

LittleBIT Member Posts: 320 ■■■■□□□□□□Man, I appreciate your help guys lol. I might as well just do that. I didn't do the pre-assessment just yet. Will do that and go from there. It's my first class, hell of a first class to start with after being out of school for a few years. How long did it take you to go through the class?Kindly doing the needful

xiny Member Posts: 46 ■■□□□□□□□□2 Weeks for Principles of Management, and 1 Week for Organizational Behavior.
I read the chapters "somewhat well", read over my notes about 3 times, took the first pre-assessment to figure out my weak areas, skimmed over the chapters in said weak areas, re-read my notes, took the 2nd pre-assessment...repeat."Hacking is like sex. You get in, you get out, and hope that you didn't leave something that can be traced back to you." -
NotHackingYou Member Posts: 1,460 ■■■■■■■■□□I had that class recently. It was pretty boring. I took the pre-test and studied everything I didn't know and then did vocab after that. Passed on the first try. When you go the extra mile, there's no traffic.

joemysterio Member Posts: 152I haven't read anything except for the first chapter, half paid attention to the chapter videos, and watched one quiz video. I've taken the pre-assessment twice and barely got 60% on them. I was supposed to take the pre-assessment this past Sunday but I haven't studied at all since my last call with my mentor...
I hate BNC1 lol I can't pay attention because it's as boring as watching oil dry. I did watch two quiz videos on my lunch break and from what the course mentor says, the questions are common sense so if you pay attention to the wording, you should be able to pass just fine.Current goals: CCNA/CCNP -

It wasn't terrible boring principles of management was much more boring. Now I'm on Project+ and that takes the cake on boring. Just take the preassessment and from the percentages you score under 70% and read up on those sections. It is a lot of common sense stuff though.
Good luck! -
Danielm7 Member Posts: 2,310 ■■■■■■■■□□Definitely clump together that one, with Princ. of Management and the Project+, lots of overlapping material there.

zafeer20 Member Posts: 61 ■■□□□□□□□□If anyone doesn't mind answering, how much would a Bachelors in IT Network Administration or Security cost for the whole program.? I'm interested in getting a degree as soon as I finish my bachelors in BIT.
-
ratbuddy Member Posts: 665Noone can answer that for you, because it all depends how fast you can go. If you finish in one term, the cost is around 3000 bucks. Each term is six months, so you can do the math from there. If you already have a degree to transfer in, and you can devote the time, it's definitely possible to go for a one-term finish in either of those programs.

Tyb Member Posts: 207 ■■■□□□□□□□I agree that most of this class was boring, some OK parts though. You will see some of the terms again in Project+ if you have to take it, mostly about group behaviors.WGU BS:IT Security (March 2015)

petedude Member Posts: 1,510What's the passing score now? I seem to remember it was in the 50% range somewhere when I took that one. Don't overstudy.
There's a 280-page Org. Behavior text on Amazon that had chapter exams online. . . it's by one of the authors of the WGU recommended book. That's how I prepped. I read the whole thing (it's short), took the chapter tests and re-read the chapters I had trouble with (weren't many).Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

markulous Member Posts: 2,394 ■■■■■■■■□□That was the first class I took at WGU. It was boring but I just worked through the readings and quizzes in about a week and then had a good enough score to pass the test. It's boring, but goes it by quick.

datschmo Member Posts: 59 ■■□□□□□□□□@LittleBIT: The course isn't that bad. I scored enough to pass the pre-assessment and then watched the video's/quiz a couple times over; then studied the vocab and weak areas from pre-assessment. Also, I only read the text for my weak areas.

I personally take the pre-assessment right away for any class. Your mentor should hopefully be on board with this too (mine is). It gives you a strong idea of where you need to focus your efforts. You also never know, you may already know enough to take the exam right now and won't even have to study. No real need to if you can pass the exam and then move on to your next class. -
LittleBIT Member Posts: 320 ■■■■□□□□□□Thanks All,
I am going to take the pre-assessment one more time after going over the vocab. It is pretty common sense. I am trying to pass all 25 classes in a single 6 month stint. Hopefully I can. I will tell you, the first week was hell lol. I can't stay focused on the stuff, hopefully its not like this for my other classes. I'm doing BSIT, so I guess there will be more classes just AS dry. *shrugs*.Kindly doing the needful -
ratbuddy Member Posts: 665I have focus problems too. What I find helps is to do two things at once. For example, watch a video while you read the text. The video doesn't even have to be related to the class. I'm constantly on clubmst3k.com hitting the random button. It's distracting to read a text, especially a boring one, while watching a show or movie, so I find myself going back and reading things again and again. It really helps the material sink in. Maybe give that a shot.
Also, if you haven't already, activate your free 90 day Pluralsight membership through Dreamspark. Don't be afraid to take full advantage of Pluralsight and the Lynda.com membership included from WGU. The videos can make boring material much easier to absorb. -
