What do you guys think about a job you see repeatedly posted?

After my internship, I wanted to jump directly into a networking job but didn't think that was very realistic. It turned out ok because I landed a job with a great company. Once in awhile, I'd look to see the other jobs out there and I would come across this job that sounded great and exactly what I wanted to do. Seems to deal with strictly Cisco equipment and troubleshooting connection problems. The ad sounded great, but I never thought I would qualify for it. Anyway, it has been 6-7 months and I see the job come up again in my email. This has to be the second or third time. The same position with the same company. (I subscribed to their open position listing awhile back.) It is to the point where I think the job is too good to be true, or the company must not be that great to work for. I guess there is a possibility that they are growing at an incredible rate. At one time I really wanted a job like this, and now, I'm wondering what is going on. Anyone have this happen to them?

    I still see my first post military job open all the time. It's because the turn over is so high. They're constantly hiring and having workers quit.

    The job I just left has the job posted almost every week. I think it's ok in a truly entry level position. I have 10 coworkers in this position. If one person moves on once a month (which is pretty accurate) they hire a new person. That's 10 postings a year for a few weeks at a time.

    Amazon has several distribution centers around my area, and they are constantly hiring IT managers. I don't know if they just have a bunch of IT managers at each location, or if they haven't been able to find anyone. But it's been like this for probably the last 3 years that I've noticed.

    many companies (specially big ones) have a constant recruitment process to hire the best talent as well. They don't have the need to fill the position.

    Depends the company but most time if I see it posted up like every 2 - 3 months that it is high turnover or they are part of a multi-member team and someone from that team has left.

    Mostly leaning towards high turnover though.

    Those make me nervous. I tend to think that they must have taken a chance on someone and it didn't work out (expectations too high possibly), the new hire realized the company politics and/or management were too much to handle, etc.

    When I have an interview for these positions I always ask what the story is behind the job being posted many times throughout the year. Some companies will be honest and say the person didn't work out, others will claim something else.

    I also go on GlassDoor.com and read employee reviews.

    Typically it indicates the position has high turn over. This is a red flag that it is a bad place to work.

    To me it also says that it is either a bad place to work, or at the very least that the reporting manager is very bad. I've taken jobs that I've seen have high turnover and regretted the decision.

    I think its important to note that although its a gamble, there are circumstances that warrant a gamble. If your looking for that first IT job who cares if its a high turn over job, your only there for experience.

    It also does not guarantee a crummy job. The place I am not (like I mentioned above) is high turn over, but really its an easy job with good pay for entry level. If I were the type to want to milk something for as long as I could, I would stay here.

    A lot of the time, it could be high turnover. Some of the time, it may just be pretty hard to find a qualified candidate.

    It could be a non-existent job (shilling for resumes).

    It could be the hiring team is being wayy too particular (seeing more and more of this).

    And yes, it could also be a bad situation where the job is essentially a revolving door-- people come in, people go out. Sometimes these can be turned around through extremely hard work and lots of patience on the part of a new hire, sometimes these can't be fixed.
    Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

    Agreed on the possibility the job doesn't exist. Also it's worth making note what the age of the job is? 30+ days etc. Sometimes HR departments like to leave satellites in space.

    Sounds like they made a bad hire and are advertising again. I'm sure you are familiar with the probationary period icon_smile.gif.

    It doesn't have to mean a bad position...

    My company is growing fast. Every time we add a new client, we usually have to add a help desk rep, and then every couple months we're adding engineers..

    our help desk job is posted almost weekly... our helpdesk has grown from 4 to 13 in mere months.. and we still need more help..
