Anyone have experience with ASU online, also seems pretty expensive is that normal?

Hi all I recently finished up my A.S in Electronics (but all my course work was stuff like A+ prep, Network + prep, NOT electronic engineering). I am now looking at where to continue my education. I have given WGU some thought. Im also looking at other places including Coleman University, National University and ASU online. I had given San Diego State some thought as I am local but SDSU will only take Associate degree holders with 60 or more CSU transferable units (near as I could discern from their website) so I do not qualify to goto my own local university. ASU online seems interesting to me and ASU well as has some sentimental value for my family.
Things Im curious about are
*How do current online students like ASU online
* Would current students recommend it?
*Why is it that "Non-Profit" online schools from reputable universities like ASU seem to charge for profit prices? $505 per credit hour seems pretty steep.
*Many thanks as always to the awesome tech exam members.

you'd be considered out of state, so that's always more....and even if you're an in-state student, tuition isnt cheap...only a handful of state/city university systems are fairly cheap....

I am also a degreeinfo.com member, a forum that dedicates to Distance Learning for decade. Some of the members there have attended Arizona State University - distance learning/online; and have great experiences. First of all, I would recommend you to avoid Coleman University, it is accredited by Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS); the U.S Department of Education and CHEA categorize it as Nationally Accredited school. When you are trying to transfer to regional accredited schools, it is extremely hard.

I don't have directly experience with ASU, but I would recommend it. It is a public university with well reputation in the western states; in fact, the entire country. It is non-profit, it does not mean cheap. Nowadays, operating an academic institution is not cheap because learning resources. Universities/colleges pay million dollars to electronic database for academic resources yearly. Especially, you're in San Diego is considering out-of-state tuition. The only other cheap school is Fort Hays State University. What major are you looking? There are plenty of B&M colleges/universities offer online degree nowadays. Nowadays, you can even attend Harvard University, Columbia University, Penn State University, and etc via distance learning.

If you are looking for other accredited options, goto geteducated.com or degreeinfo.com websites.

Thanks for the replies. I will check out those websites but I dont think Id be charged more or less based on my state residency. I found this on the asu online website in regards to that
For students enrolled in a fully online degree program, ASU undergraduate tuition ranges from $480 to $543 per credit hour, regardless of residency status, with no additional program fees. Specific tuition amounts for each program are listed on the individual program pages.
