What would be the average hourly pay for a help desk position?

Everything depends on where you're located, but my best guess would be 35k - 45k.

Also depends on the company. If you look at the at home ones you are looking at $9-10 an hour. Some small MSPs only pay $10-13 and hour. Especially with no experience. Median according to the BLS is 45k I think but that encompasses all levels of experience.

Helpesk is a very broad "brush" that many people use to describe any desktop support position. Because of this, it will have a very broad pay range. I have seen from minimum wage (Flint MI) to $70K+ (Private school in metro Detroit) and everything in between.

Does anyone have any personal knowledge about either Chicago or Indianapolis pay range for help desk positions?

depends on where the job is at, what type of firm its for, how much experience you have, and the duties of the role....

Like others have stated, the location will make the pay vary. I've seen most help desk jobs range from $12-14/hr though.

Depends on your responsibilities and your location. Without those it is a very wide range. Also depends on your experience. I provide full end-user support in downtown Denver and get paid $16.25 an hour. It's a little underpaid IMO, but I don't even have a year of IT experience either so I'm not really complaining right now.

Do you have a degree? What would be an employers view on Metro State University Denver? I will be going there in the fall for CIS.

I have an associate's in IT and I'm working on my bachelor's. I have a couple of certs as you can see. I can't see working at this pay for an incredibly long time. I would say 2-8 months, I should get a decent sized raise hopefully. I like it here and I don't want to leave if I don't have to. I'll have a couple more certs by then too.

Nice man! That is quite an accomplishment! Do you know how employers view Metro in the Denver area?Would CU Denver be a better choice? I looked at CU Denver, but they take less of my credits. I have passed the math entrance exam for BOTH schools. So, I can go to either one.

Most employers don't care about which school you attended unless you went to some crappy online school. I see Helpdesk jobs in Utah range from $10-22 an hour. Tier 1 (i.e. No experience what so ever) is generally between $10-12 here.

Like the above poster said, a college is usually a college. While there are definitely some prestigious schools out there, there probably won't be anyone that is going to frown upon most schools. I got my associate's from Kaplan and while it's fully accredited both regionally and nationally, it's online and for-profit, but no one really cares.

I'm in the suburbs of Chicago. I started out making 14.50 an hour, after a year, I got a raise to 15.85 and and at the MSP I'm salary making just over 40k. Though we get incentives per higher level Cert we attain.

Chicago the range is usually 13.00-24.00. The Lady is on Help Desk making 21.00 she only had 8 months of experience when she landed that.

$12/hour in San Antonio, $13 if you worked a shift that crossed midnight.

Ahhh, a fellow Hoosier. I'm just under you at $32k, but my "help desk" job is really everything that's plugged in since my partner and I manage around 1,000+ total users, 800+ devices, roughly 20 servers, and an antique phone system.
