Starting WGU - July 1st - BSIT: Software Development

Anyone else starting the BSIT software development track in July (first month they are offering it)?

I'm only transferring in with 20 CUs due to a lack of an Associates degree, and all my certifications being as old as dirt.

Anyone have any clue how WGU handles cases were you can take an upgrade exam, that *might* clear two courses? For example, I have a SCJP for the 1.4 Java platform (from 2004). In theory, I can take the upgrade exam (1Z0-805) which will upgrade that certification to the Java 7 version. However, the Software Development track requires both a OCA (1Z0-803) and OCP (1Z0-804) exam from what I can tell (the upgrade would basically give me the same cert as the 1Z0-804).

Anyone know if I go ahead and take the upgrade exam if WGU will count it towards all 12 CUs (Software I and II)?

Also, will oracle let me take the 1Z0-803 exam even after I have the full certification at the higher level covered?

I don't have a student mentor yet, but my enrollment counselor had no clue about the idiosyncrasies involved in the cert process by Oracle.

(I would love to be able to clear two classes and 12CUs of the ~100 I need with a single vendor test)

    Have you spoken to anyone at WGU lately? The most recent information I have says that this program will not be starting for quite a while.

    As of 2 days ago I was cleared to start on July 1st. According to my Enrollment Counselor they are only letting 50 people start in July, then a ton of others start in August (not sure on the numbers).

    I'm supposed to have access to EWB after the 15th (and enrollment guy calling me on the 16th to verify I've started). I'll let you know if I do get access. The student portal shows "Bachelor of Science, Software Development" at the top and I've received emails stating I was cleared to start on July 1st from both the automated system and my enrollment counselor.

    I was told a non-credit test group was starting the program in August, and real students wouldn't be starting until November. Hope for your sake my information is wrong, although it would mean I'm getting screwed a bit.

    edit: I just spoke to someone in continuing enrollment (or whatever department performs that function) and got info that agrees with what you said. I think my original source was just plain wrong. I really wish WGU would have better internal communications.

    Apparently your original information was correct. I just got off the phone with my enrollment counselor. They were originally planning on starting 50 students on July 1st, but now it will be Sept 1st.

    I was already halfway complete with the EWB course too...:P

    I was really looking forward to the new program too, gotta wait, so I'm getting an accounting degree in the meantime :)

    I plan to start the Software Development program in September as well. I'm only waiting on my transcripts to get evaluated. I was first told the July and August classes are full, though.

    Hopefully we'll get a real start date soon. I'm currently set to go Sept. 1 but have been pushed back a few times already.
