Can anyone guide me on when do i apply those above. It rather confusing for me.

recovery console: if safe mode and LKGC fail. use it to disable services or fix startup files, ect.

automated system recovery: use it as a last resort, when all else fails. it will reinstall windows and restore your system state, but format %systemdrive%.

backup system state: uh, when to use it? probably often. but certainly before installing new software or updates.
