Need Advise for Volunteering/Gaining Experience

Hello,

I live in the Portland area (OR) and I am looking to gain experience in networking/security, but anything in the IT industry would do.

I am wondering what the best method would be to find a volunteer position within an IT company in the area.
I have been Googling both jobs and general companies, and I intend to make calls to gather information and see if I can volunteer at one of these places. I am curious if there is perhaps a better way to perform this search, or if anyone can give me suggestions on how I can find something.

Thanks!

There is not enough information here to really help you.
Are you going to school or working on certifications? Do you have any computer skills currently?

Companies are not likely to give someone access to there computer environment without some sort of recommendation. Do you have any friends that work in the field you are interested in?

Places that might give you a shot are pretty much anything non profit. If you can find someone with a need for free labor you might be in luck.

    Good Luck!

Go on indeed and search for the keyword "intern", and apply to all of them, I mean all of them. I started out as an intern in a very small MSP which sucked, but I jumped board with 3 month of part time experience with me and now I am an intern of a big dotcom, and hope they will hire me straight out of college next year when I graduate.
