vCenter 5.5 Standalone SQL Instructions

mataimatai Member Posts: 232 ■■■□□□□□□□
Has anybody found good instructions for setting up the SQL Management Studio 2012 on a separate server for the vCenter database? I'm building a new vCenter instance in parallel and will then be doing a migration.

Thanks

Edit: Never mind, misunderstood the question.

So you just need to know how to setup SQL in order to install vCenter ? Have you got experience with either or is this the first time you work with VMware and SQL ?

I've been working with VMware ESXi, vSphere vCenter 5.0.0 for awhile. My current setup is with SQL Express on 2008r2. I'm setting up 2012 servers for vCenter 5.5. I have the following servers ready to go:

    vCenter
    Single Sign-On
    Inventory
    Web Client
    SQL
    VUM

I haven't started the vCenter installs yet, I thought I'd start with the SQL database first, then the ODBC connection, then the installs.

I'm no SQL expert, the setup seems really intimidating to me, but I'd like to do it myself so I can learn.

I'm mainly curious if there are better instructions out there than the install guide, there's some SQL stuff in there I don't understand.

    Thanks

    Hi there ,

Instead of installing SQL 2008 Why not go for 2012. The installation of SQL 2012 should be pretty basic for Vcenter 55. All you need do is follow the base instructions. Have a look at the below video

You would probably need to install Studio manager for SQL aswell.
