vCloud Director and IP Hash
jibbajabba
I think since vSphere 4 people complain that VMware has removed the ability to set default settings on vDS level for portgroups. Well, removed is the wrong word, never implemented more likely.
I now have a scenario where I have to setup vCloud Director in an environment where portchannels are being used (we don't here) so naturally the default settings on the portgroups need to be set to "IP Hash" in the LB settings. In addition to that a different order of uplinks is required.
Whilst you can do all that initially, when people create routed networks, additional portgroups are automatically created which essentially have the LB set to "Originating Port ID" - which is the default.
How do you deal with this ? Same with Uplink order. Sometimes you have requirements to maybe change the order but again, it is not possible unless you jump in at a later time.
