WGU is Discontinuing Several Programming Courses Next Semester

Just got word from my mentor that WGU will be doing away with JAVA, Database and Microsoft programming classes next semester! Linux classes will be graduated to 3 CU's per course and Finite Mathematics/College Algebra classes will receive additional CU's. CCNA courses will also receive a bump in CU's. It appears the WGU is wanting to place more emphasis on IT Security for the BS IT Security degree plan. What sucks: If you have taken any of the courses that will receive a bump in CU's, you will not be awarded those CU's when the new degree plan becomes active.
In other words, the plan in retroactive for only transferred courses and not courses completed and taken at WGU. I have the second half of Linux coming up (2CU's) and upon completion of the course I will be one short of two CU according to WGU's new degree plans, which will now rate Linux at 3CU's per course. Hope this made sense icon_wink.gif

Isn't this just for their IT Security and Network Admin degrees? For me personally, I think it's great. I'm enrolled into the IT Security degree and it definitely works in my favor.

They took away the java courses in the regular IT degree as well and put in two Linux courses. It still has one programming course though, Software Development fundamentals, but it's an MTA exam and not a project based class.

Couldn't agree more. I was dreading some of my upcoming programming courses.

Yup I wouldn't have minded the programming classes on one hand. However, I rather graduate and get my degree done faster. These changes easily make it faster for me to finish maybe a term or two sooner. :)

They are keeping the CIW: Database Design Specialist as far as I'm aware. ;)

Probably, I know I skipped the database fundamentals course and went right to DB1, maybe they realized the lower class was pointless.
