Using RFCs to study for certification

This seems to be more common among candidates for Cisco/networking certification, but I was wondering if others are utilizing RFCs as a resource to prepare for MCSA? I had assumed that these would surpass my comprehension abilities, but as it turns out, I am finding them to be one of the best resources. Surprisingly readable with generous examples and thorough explanations of why you should use the technology and how it works.
Of course, it is not always necessary to read through the documents in their entirety (i.e., you don't need to commit every RADIUS attribute to memory). However, after reading through a few of them, I tried some practice exam questions (Transcender) and noticed an improvement in my scores. I was understanding the content better and concerning myself less with the interface/commands. It did not matter that I had not run the dns commands prior; I knew which parameters made sense.
What is your experience with RFCs?
