X11 for various distros

What are some basic login manager (X11) for various distributions?

(2) Vanilla

No idea about specific distros - but I imagine that the most basic would be XDM.

I personally am pretty no frills so I just use startx from the console

Take a look into Gnome Display Manager, KDE Display Manager, and Xorg.
