I started a helpdesk job about 10 at 28,000 a year




- 9 months of prior experience as a chat agent for a School Management System. $10/hr

- A+, Network+ are the only certs that I have.



We are a outsourcing company so I do a bit of everything from

Exchange
VPN
Cisco
Sonicwall
PC support
Software support
Windows server 2003 - 2012
VM

Yup, I got alot of toys to play with here. It's great, but am I getting underpaid.. I'm still in college. No degree

    I can't really tell if you're asking a question or just looking for input? I mean yeah 28K is a little under what you should get. Most helpdesk guys I know are in the mid - upper 30's. Honestly, my rule of thumb is that if you're going to be a 'X' you should get paid what a 'X' gets paid. I used to think the same thing (well I'll wait until I get my degree). Well I have my degree now and I think that I'm still underpaid as well for the kind of hours I put in and work I do.

    If you have the experience don't take less than what you're worth. Now obviously this is hard to gauge in a lot of situations and some companies are just cheap. But if you stick with it you will eventually find someone willing to pay you 'market value' (unless it's ridiculously high and you're way off)
