WGU vs WGU [State]

So there is WGU and then there are state specific WGUs, ie, WGU Tennessee - Online University Tennessee

They both appear to offer the same classes. What would be the difference in enrolling in one over the other? Can you perceive any advantage to one?

I posed this question to my enrollment counselor roughly a year ago but it was never answered. After reading about the freak of nature that is DonDeal and how he completed his degree in 4 months, it has inspired me. I have no plans in completing it in that short of time, ideally, a year.

Apologies if this has been gone over already. Searched the forums but with so many WGU threads its hard to sift through all of them.

No difference in curriculum. If you live in one of the states WGU has partnered with, you can take advantage of state student aid programs in addition to federal aid programs.

    That makes sense.

Are they ran by different faculty? Would I receive the same online instructor at WGU Tennessee as I would WGU? Has anyone here enrolled at a state specific WGU?

I haven't done one of the state level branches, but I did go to WGU. Just to clarify, you don't get an "online instructor" really. You are given the learning materials and then you have to learn it. If you have trouble you can contact a course mentor who will help you out, but if you're looking for more 1 or 1 or instructor driven courses this might not be your cup of tea.

I didn't mean instructor, as in professor, I just meant whomever was administering the course. I suppose in this scenario that would be your mentor.

The pool of mentors is moot because the advantage would be to the state since you would guarantee they are at least in the same time zone.

The classes are online so there would not be a difference unless your doing a specialized program offered by the state such as nursing or dentistry which does have an actual campus location for you to take your medical classes in.

As noted, the biggest advantage is taking advantage of your states MANY additional scholarship, grant and other financial aide that is NOT available to WGU students that are represented by a state specific WGU. I am in california and am missing out on thousands in financial aide because WGU does not have that partnership developed.

WGU is a great school and excellent for those that can accelerate through classes quickly. If you are not or if life happens are you can't accelerate then your ONLY option as an existing student is to fix the issues and get back to acceleration. There is NO financial aide or support for you as an existing student, only new students get the ability to apply for and potentially receive aide.
