WGU - BS IT Management - Success After Graduation?

I am currently working through this program and I am curious about success graduates have had after completion.

Has gaining this degree allowed you to further your career?
Were you able to move up the chain?
Did you have to move on to a new company to really utilize this new degree?

I just haven't heard a lot of success stories with this particular degree and I am just looking for some assurance I chose the right path (I believe I did, but there are always doubts...)

I'd like to know as well. I ended up in this program due to not having what was needed to get into one of the IT programs (despite a high technical aptitude). I understand I could complete a cert. and then be admitted, or switch after a term. For some reason, I like the idea and flexibility of a business degree, which I intend to supplement with a load of certs. I feel like it would be easier to get a job outside of IT if need-be (not that I'd want to but sometimes necessity calls).

Without hijacking this thread, I would like to know if there is anything bad about doing that....would it be a disadvantage over having an IT degree (in the eyes of employers)?

Good questions... I wouldn't consider it thread hijacking.

From what I have seen in job listings, business and IT degrees are interchangeable. IT Management seems like it would be a good in-between degree, almost like having dual degrees, for landing either a business or IT related management position.

I also am working on the BS IT Management Degree from WGU.

My thought was, I have a good amount of IT experience and pairing it with a business/management type of degree gives me best of both worlds. I will then have IT experience and a degree in management.

I haven't seen many posts about this degree either, but I am confident is exactly what I need.

It's a bachelor of science degree from a regionally accredited university. That's the most important thing, as most jobs require a 4-year degree (or many years of experience). Often both.

Your success after graduation will depend on how you leverage the degree to obtain job positions that you are interested in (either business, IT, or both), and the experience that you gain in those positions.

The degree will simply open up doors. The rest depends on hard work, determination to succeed in your chosen career path, and experience gained. Technical positions in IT also often require certifications as well. That means lots of self-study and labbing at home, as well as hands-on experience in the field.

If you end up wanting to focus on the management side, you can always obtain an MBA with a concentration in IT after you get a few years of professional experience under your belt.
