70-417 - MCSA upgrade exam (3 in 1) tips or tricks from recent takers

I'm set to take my MCSA upgrade exam (70-417) next tuesday, 9/9. This exam is 3 exams in one so its a bit daunting - more so than even the 70-647 PRO exam for my Enterprise Admin in 2008.

So i'm posting this in hope that some recent takers can give me some tips or tricks. I know from all the review i've done that its very powershell heavy, and touches on a few new techs like workspaces and workfolders.

Any input appreciated, as I take the exam 5 days from now!

make sure you keep an eye on the time. You want to make sure you give yourself enough time to be able to finish all three sections because once you submit one section, you cant go back.

Ahh, I was unaware of this. Also, do you know whether its an average score required above 700, or is 700 on each section required to consider it a passing score? Each section is roughly 25 questions?

CBT nuggets, home virtual lab and technet. I've always done this method and never scored below 850 on an MS exam. This one is different however, with the massive amount of material including memorizing a good 50+ powershell commands I've never used professionally even once.

You have to get 700 or more in each section to pass. 699 in one section means you fail even if you get 1000 in the other two sections

From memory it was somewhere between 20-30 questions

The 410 and 411 sections flew by, the 412 section was a beast that had me wondering if I was going to pass or not. Spend your remaining days on the 412 topics. icon_cool.gif

Passed today with an 850: 900/871/850. The 850 was on the "advanced configuration".

Definitely the most difficult MS exam i've taken. 80% of it was drag and drop or hotspot, not multiple choice as in all of 70-6xx exams.

My exam was extremely IPAM heavy - a technology that I know no enterprise will use anytime soon. Clustering, Hyper-V, etc were lighter than expected, techs that i'm proficient with.

Glad to have this passed and done. On to MCSE: Communications!
