Pluralsight VCP 5 videos for VCP5.5?

Hi all,

I'm contemplating to buy a monthly subscription over at Pluralsight.
I was wondering if I should be watching the VMware vSphere 5 videos to help me prepare for the DCV5.5. I know that it never hurts watching study videos, but since the videos are dated 2011 I'm a bit concerned that I will pick up out dated information which could have a negative affect on the exam outcome.

A colleague of mine is studying for the VCAP-DCA and I had a quick peak in to some of the VCAP videos. But I have to admit that those videos are currently way out of my comfort zone.

So if I couldn't profit from the DCV5.0 videos dated 2011, there would be no reason for me to but the subscription.

Thoughts?

The 5.5 exam contains questions specific to that version, you can review the exam blueprint to learn the exam objectives: https://mylearn.vmware.com/lcms/web/portals/certification/VCP_Blueprints/VCP5-DCV-VCP550-Exam-Blueprint-v3_5.pdf

Note that the videos won't meet the training requirement for the certification so you'd still need to take an authorised vSphere class too whether you buy the videos or not, more on the training options in the blueprint and here in this very forum.

Pluralsight's VMware training videos are an excellent resource and a large majority of the content is still relevant. They have a series on the 5.5 updates. Also, not every company is already on 5.5 so learning 5.0/1 and then learning the new features/changes in 5.5 could be seen as an advantage.

CBT Nuggets has updated their VCP training for 5.5 but from my first impressions I would probably still see Pluralsight's VCP training as the best first resource. The flow of the new CBT Nuggets training is a little off for someone new to VMware while the Pluralsight videos walk you through in a more linear fashion which is easier to comprehend.

I would also highly recommend the Mastering vSphere 5.5 book to augment your studies.
