That was my suspicion. When I take a test, the ones I am not sure of, I mark and go back. I know if I get it wrong, they are going to start hammering me on it. If I come back to this question, not sure they will ask another one of the same type. -

Thanks! I really appreciate it once again. After taking 102, I can say you were supremely prepared and it's pretty impressive that you passed both exams back-to-back! I interpreted a few of the vague, terribly worded questions incorrectly - I think. It really irritates me when I hear people say, "It couldn't be that hard, its a CompTIA test.
I think most people who say that haven't taken the newer exams which are getter tougher, especially strategic partnerships with LPI and SNIA forcing them to update their material more regularly with a deeper knowledge-base.timku.com(puter) | ProHacker.Co(nsultant) | ITaaS.Co(nstultant) | ThePenTester.net | @fuz1on

5ekurity Member Posts: 346 ■■■□□□□□□□Best of luck on your retake; after some time away from the thread / forum (mainly due to tons of work related activities) I'm back and ready to complete 102. 20/20 hindsight I think I rushed a bit before and it came down to the little details of which I didn't remember or understand exactly what the question was trying to ask me. With more prep time, I'm feeling a lot more confident now.

DribbleCastle Member Posts: 16 ■□□□□□□□□□Passed my L+ 102 exam yesterday. Feels great to have it completed. Here are some thoughts from my experience.
I knew very little about Linux and it took me about 8 weeks of studying to pass both exams. Keep in mind I'm currently unemployed so I had more time to study than most. However, I've been volunteering and job searching so I wasn't studying all the time. I probably put in 25+ hours each week.
For me the 101 exam was harder than the 102. I failed the 101 after only 3 weeks of studying in my first attempt. Basically I took the exam way to early. My previous COMPTIA exams (N+,S+), which I took 3+ years ago seemed a lot easier than the Linux+. Maybe they're all harder now or maybe its just LPI's involvement in these exams. The 102 exam seemed easier when I expected it was going to be even more challenging. I think it really comes down to what particular questions you get and if your strengths are in those areas, especially concerning the fill in the blank questions. I think I had somewhere between 10-15 fill in the blanks with only 2 that I was completely clueless on.
The thing I learned from failing my first 101 exam is your need to learn the details for these exams. Try to know as many of the command parameters and the contents of the config files etc. It takes time and there is a lot of cross over between similar commands which can be confusing. To study I used both ITProTV and Linux Academy videos. I think I got the most out of Linux Academy with their videos, study guides, labs, and quizzes but the nice thing about ITPRO TV is that it gives you a voucher for MeasureUp practice exams. I thought the MeasureUp questions for the 102 exams were really helpful to my preparation.
Anyway, good luck to everyone. I'm on to my next topic (VMWare) and hopefully job. -

DribbleCastle Member Posts: 16 ■□□□□□□□□□Thanks everyone.@Drib congrats!! how long have you been out of work? do you have an IT background?
Quit my job a few months ago. Being a remote worker got to me and wasn't interested in moving forward with the company I was with. I've worked in IT for 8+ years. Currently looking for work in Seattle. Linux is bigger here so thought it would be a good skill set to work on with my time off.
Also, decided that I'm probably gonna go CCNA next instead of VMWare. -
H3||scr3am Member Posts: 564 ■■■■□□□□□□well Drib, best of luck with the CCNA and Job search. I'm working on the CCENT currently myself.

markulous Member Posts: 2,394 ■■■■■■■■□□A couple weeks in and I'm not finding it very interesting. I enjoyed some of the CLI in ios, however that was in packet tracer which had visual representations of what I was doing. I have to do it for WGU though so I suppose I'll have to power through it.

5ekurity Member Posts: 346 ■■■□□□□□□□Just got back from 102 - got the pass this time with a 720! Spent a lot more time working the practice questions in TestOut, printed out all the overview sheets and reviewed the commands / functionality and key locations.
fuz1on, hope you passed too!! -
fuz1on Member Posts: 961 ■■■■□□□□□□Passed 102!!!
Thanks everyone!!! I really appreciate it once again! I spent the last few days re-watching Linux Academy, CBT Nuggets (RedHat), Infinite Skills (Ubuntu and RedHat), ITUOnline and reading the Sybex book over - as well as taking their practice exam and using their flashcards.
*edit* I got a little confused on syntax differentiation for certain commands the first time and I made it a point to really get it down this time. I'm glad because I needed it!

Yes, all done with L+ - CCNA for WGU is probably going to be the next thing I tackle. At some point later this year I have the GCIH on the radar as well. Never a dull moment!
And fuz1on - congrats!!! Good work! -

For anyone that applied for the SUSE CLA, what is the Verification Code (in addition to your LPIC ID) that they are asking for? -
brownwrap Member Posts: 549It is the verification from your Linux+. Your employer, or anyone else can use the verification code for your L+ to make sure you took the test. I believe it was listed when you log into ComTIA.

How did you accomplish this? I never got that I just got SUSE CLA, and when I try to check the certification DB I get access denied errors -
fuz1on Member Posts: 961 ■■■■□□□□□□I dunno...I think they should just give it to you. They gave one more before - it was a 5-for-1!!!
My certification page says Certified for SUSE CLA 11 and SUSE 11 Tech Spec; Enrolled for SUSE CLP 11.
