Job expectations?

Good morning TE!

So I am going to start my first private sector IT job after the new year, and dont know what to expect. So far I have been told:

1. Work is paid hourly, overtime is the same rate as normal
2. I should be starting on night shift
>3. I work as a contractor from the staffing agency for the first 6 months, then the client decides if they want to take me full time at a 20% raise or release me back to the staffing agency.

Does this seem to be the norm or are these red flags?

Thanks everyone!

Depends on your experience, the actual role etc…

Hours and pay could be negotiated if you can back it up with your experience and what you bring to the table.

    Were you gov before?

The pay was good to start, I was just concerned about hours not being set in the contract. In your experience how often do companies hire the contract to hire employees for full time?

Yea I am mil now. (but usually dont mention it)

When I first started my career it was very similar to what you posted. I perform 110% and the company picked me up. Then I stay with them for 3 years and started moving around much higher roles. Now I work for the County/Gov so building more skills here. To be honest most company these days do exactly that and some information may not be in print like the time/hours.

Generally if you perform well and it's a position with growth oppurtunity the company will pick you up.

Personally I would be concerned about the same OT rate and ask how many hours current employees are usually working but it depends on your priority of life/work balance.

Thanks for the imput I will talk to them about hours and how long term it is after the 6 month contract. Anything else I should ask or feel around for when talking with a potential employer?
