    Don't be a wuss. Get a different VCP or VCAP. :D

    Haha, my current role just doesn't demand that at this point. I should probably get my VCP before I consider any other VMWare certs. ;)

    You won't get a new certification title if you just pass VCP510, or if you just pass VCP550, or if you pass VCP510 and then VCP550D - you'd be a VCP5-DCV regardless.

    VCP550D is only for those who have already passed VCP510 and want a low-cost option for recertification.

    Does the VCP550D allow you take it at home, like the VCA-DCV? - is that what I take from the VMware website as you can 'take it from anywhere'?

    Yes, but as you've only just gained your VCP5-DCV you don't need to take it anyway as your recertification date will be 2 years from now.
