Security Clearance

What salary range in IT security requires security clearance?

Do health insurance companies require security clearance for IT security personnel and contractors?

Do all government related contracts require clearances regardless of the jurisdiction say State or Federal?

Thanks.

A clearance working for the federal government is not dependent on salary. I've seen individuals making $12/hour and others making over $100k a year with clearances.

A clearance is just an advanced background check to establish a baseline of trustworthiness for someone working for the US Federal government. I worked in a company where all the janitorial staff had DoD Secret clearances, so having a security clearance does not equal having a high pay rate.

National Agency Check. FBI, DHS, etc. records are searched to see if they have any information on you. May also include searches into state and federal records for convictions, warrants, etc.

Realize that getting a background check and getting a security clearance are two different things. A background check is necessary for getting a clearance, but most (successful) background checks do not result in a clearance of any type being awarded. In fact, it is now so easy to perform background checks electronically that a thorough check by a commercial hiring service goes beyond what was once known as a DoD Confidential clearance. It won't surprise me if, one day, a routine employment background check will be equivalent to a DoD Secret clearance vetting. You'll have the DHS to thank for that.

A health insurance company will not require a security clearance. You only need a clearance if you are going to be dealing with classified information.
