GNS3 vs. real equipment

What in this track can be simulated with GNS3 and what has to be the real equipment? I'd like to know in order to estimate costs for an NP:Security lab down the road. Thanks!

Back when I was studying for my CCNAS, GNS3 simulated routers and ASA devices, not switches. This may have changed tho.

You should be able to do everything in GNS3 except switches. That's what I'm planning to do next year. 2950 switches are cheap enough that you shouldn't have to spend much.

GNS3 integrates with IOU now which does switches. There are still some limitations, but it's way closer to a real switch than putting an NM-16 into a 3660 was.
