I would love to be in that situation but it's definitely a clear choice between the two.

honestly because you have a family. it shouldn't be what YOU want. only thing that should matter is "what is good for them" and i think MD is. youll be making more money...education (which means your kids will have better future)..just my 2 cents

Seeing how I've lived in MD for 20 years I'd definitely go with Hawaii! But that's just me....Yea, Hawaii is $68k...but you get to live on a beatiful island and who knows when you'd get another chance like that? Again, that's just me, good luck in whatever you choose though!

IMHO I think you should go for the MD job because of the better educational system for your children, and your family in the long run.

You may also just want to put a lime in the coconut and you drink them both up and feel better. Sorry that song just came to me when I was thinking about Hawaii.

    Good Luck in your decision.

I would do MD. Here is a good website to figure out cost of living. I used it moving from NJ to TN.

Where in Hawaii & Md are these roles? And like someone said, COL is crazy in hawaii, and for a good reason...its far from EVERYTHING!!! all the materials & products needed to get shipped out there cost a ton...

What did you choose? I imagine the deadline for the offers was today. I would wait until the kids are out of the house, then go to Hawaii!

If one job were in Siberia and the other were in Antarctica, which one would you chose. It's situation not surroundings that make people happy. Be sure the situation you take into account includes that of your family.

Well in the end I choose the MD job. I appreciate everyone’s input! What finally swayed my decision is a comparison of the educational system between MD and HI. I didn’t even consider the educational systems until someone had mentioned here on the forum. The differences are night and day!

Ok so I have two job offers on the table and I literally have no idea which one is better/worse. I can’t even come to a conclusion making a positive and negatives table. Any advice would help…

Hey would you be willing to share a bit about what certifications you have, whether you have a degree or not, and what your experience is like?

I'm interested in applying to jobs similar to those and I'm curious what they'd like to see before they give an offer.

And too add a new dimension to the whole situation I was offered an officer job in the military reserves (currently enlisted) as a security specialist commander in my current state. I will most likely stay where I am in the government and become an officer in the reserves as I think this will get me closer to my ultimate goal of CISO/CSO.

Get the 100K gig in MD, take some of the extra 30K (or all of it?), take 3 weeks off and vacation there. Get tired of it and come back home knowing you make the right decision, LOL.

In all seriousness, do what's right for you.

I know I am late to the discussion but this may have helped:

Cost of Living Comparison: compare Baltimore, Maryland to Hilo, Hawaii

You would basically be taking a 50% pay cut picking Hilo.
(not knowing what city in MD, I went with Baltimore)
