Just finished signing up for it. I have a few NSX engagements to work on, so seems like the right thing to do. Probably won't take it until late spring.

May need to build a real lab. Will see how far I can go with HOL.

    Will spend this week going over the ICM lecture docs.
    Will spend next week breaking down the blueprint.
    Will spend the following week cursing the crappy documentations.

    Let me know if you have any questions on it. Exam environment should not be too different from HOL tho I have not documented the differences.

    I'm reasonably familiar with VCAP level exams.

    Is this open book like DCA? I had assumed it would be, but the blueprint doesn't specify. Prep strategy will have to change if it's closed book (i.e. study a lot harder).

    You have access to three PDFs (NSX-administration-guide, NSX-API-guide, NSX-Installation-Guide), the html documentation for NSX and vSphere (NSX 6 Documentation Center, vSphere 5.5 Documentation Center) and kb.vmware.com

    Planning on taking the exam mid to late March. It'll depend on the exam facility availability. That'll give me 8-10 weeks of studying which is inline with my other VCAP exam prep time.

    The exam is 210 min to solve 18 problems which works out to 11 min 40 sec per question. Considerably more time vs. DCA which was 8 min per question. Unfortunately I'll have to use the web client for VCIX, so almost 12 min may not be so much time. I'll have to see if I can increase the Flash Player settings.

    Let me know what setting you want to change, if they are not in place I can add them.

    Exam scheduled for 3/28. I can bang on 2 HOL (1403 & 1425) for practice.

    Finished reading the ICM stuff. Took longer than expected, but I have extra study time, so not a big deal. Will be spending next week doing the 2 HOL and reading/skimming through CLI & API.

    @GSX,

    I've noticed that in HOL the Flash Player storage settings is changed to unlimited. It would be nice if the lab environment is setup the same as well. Here's a link with more details: Quick Tip – Useful Flash Player optimization for the vSphere Web Client & other Flash WebApps | virtuallyGhetto

    Curious - will there be a design exam for the NV track? I know it's early days yet.

    Probably not. There's nothing to design.

    Ugh.... gave myself too much time to study. Slacking too much.

    I just doubled-checked and its not set to unlimited. Kind of a pain as I'm sure I set that previously. I doubt it will get updated in the next few weeks so you might make a mental note to change it when you launch.

    @GSX,

    Thanks for the info. It'll be the first thing I check when I start the exam.

    Had to push back the exam date by a week. Wife scheduled a mini-vacation.

    Finished reading through the install and cli guide. Will struggle through the API guide rest of the week. I can probably skip the API guide for the exam, but I'm curious about the content.

    I don't do enough admin stuff, so no way I can pass the exam with 1 month prep.

    BTW, why is this one 4 hours while the new VCIXs announced are 2 hours?

    VCIX-NV is 3.5 hours
    The upcoming VCIX admin exams should be about 3 hours like the DCA550/DTA510/CIA510

    Design exams might be less than the current 3hr 15min but that is not official yet.

    The language referring to 4hr/2hr has been removed from the roadmap.

    Finally did some decent studying over the weekend. Read about half the admin guide. Hoping to knockout most of it by this weekend. Did some online searches and there's actually few guides out there now. Will need to read through them (especially the tshoot section). Will be spending the remainder of the month pounding away at HOL modules.

    Once you grasp the NSX concepts, it's not too bad. Just need to get familiar with the interface.
