asa ios upgrade

clarsonclarson Member Posts: 903 ■■■■□□□□□□
I was able to get a asa5510 for really cheap. So, I'm look to make some use of it. But, the ios is really old. I can do a copy from a tftp server with no problem. But, can i just do one big jump in ios version or will it need to be done in steps. Does other firmware need upgrading also. And, what other software should I put on it.

To clarify, ASA software is not IOS. To answer your question, there are cases where you must upgrade to intermediary version(s) when going from an older version to something recent or the latest. For example, going directly from 8.2x to 9.x won't work. The release notes for each version should specifiy which minimum versions are needed.
