SCJP book for Java beginner?

A good friend recommended a book for studying Java. Without hesitation I bought it via ebay yesterday.

Its the SCJP book written by Kathy Sierra.

Anyone have this book? Is it newbie friendly?

SCJP is obsolete.

Google for "OCA Java 7" study guide. There are about 5 books. Most people recommend
