Hello all.

I have just received my access server. So I plugged it in, attached all cables, opened Putty to configure it, and not comes up on the screen at all.

. The OK LED light on the server isn't lit up either.

. Any suggestions?

You mean your 2509 is not booting up? Do you hear any fans running?

I do hear the fans running, yes.

Did you plug in your console cable to the correct port?

Yes, I have it going from the port to a serial to usb adapter which is plugged into my computer.

What com port did you specify when you opened putty? How many com ports do you have on your computer?

When I opened Putty, it was on COM 7. Right now, I have 2 COM ports. COM1 is never used.

Well if your computer only has 2 com ports, they should be numbered 1 and 2, what OS are you running on your computer? If it is a windows computer, you can go to control panel, device manager and look down the list to see what the computer has assigned your com ports, then make sure when you config putty to start a session, you have the 2509 hooked to the com port you have specified.

First I would confirm my serial is working by connecting to another device.
Then possible check your settings. Sometimes used equipment comes with different configs. I think 9600 is the normal connection speed but you can probably find that online. See if any higher settings might work.

Tried that as well. No luck.

. *sigh*. The AUX port wont do me any good either.

Should be set to 9600 XOFF, but Joe has a good idea, try to console into another piece of equipment to make sure your usb com port is working correctly.

Can console into my 2 switches and routers no problem. Tried different settings, no luck.

Well hate to say it, it sounds like something is wrong with it, if you purchased from a seller on ebay, you probably need to get a hold of them and see what they might be able to come up with for you. I do have a copy of the owners manual for the 2509 octo version, most of the stuff is the same, but it does have a trouble shooting section that might be of some help.

So I bought it from Certification Kits and they advise me to reseat the flash module and DRAM. I did that and still no luck. I have contacted them for an RMA number.

Sucks you need to return it but I believe they are pretty easy to work with.

So I thought I'd give you guys an update. I have filed a claim with UPS, as I believe that the server was damaged while in transit. They charged me $91.00 in customs fees. CK said that they hope I don't have to pay the brokerage fees when they ship me a replacement. I should hear from UPS in the morning.
