Cisco SDN Certifications.....

CCIE Wanna BeCCIE Wanna Be Member Posts: 95 ■■□□□□□□□□
I know SDN is an emerging technology but where is the industry on recognizing certifications for it. These particular certifications are specialist (not career like CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or CCAr), however they do require you to currently hold a CCNP or higher (I have a ways to go).

Wendell Odom posted a good article on his blog about these SDN certs if you are interested.

Just curious what you guys/gals think. I'm not in the networking industry (yet), so my knowledge is limited.

Not worth concentrating on at this time in my opinion. Cisco is selling ACI hard right now, but I'm not sure if many people are biting. I just sat through a demo yesterday and while it's cool, it's just not worth the time or effort in the DC right now. VMWare NSX might be something to keep an eye on too.

I'd wait until the market shakes out a bit to see where the leaders start to form before chasing certifications. Definitely worth keeping an eye on though.

Honestly I don't even understand SDN.

Cisco has less then 500 customers who have even purchased ACI. SDN certifications are just not worth the time right now.

This is what I thought, thanks for clarifying. I will definitely be looking into VMWare NSX in the near future.

Actually makes me want to start studying for my CCNA again. While there might not be much demand now, they are backing an open standard and being one of the first with the skills could be beneficial.

Check out the Packet Pushers podcast if you are interested in anything SDN. It is a topic they talk about a lot.

I can vouch to this. Great podcasts on SDN, and anything networking.

I will be posting soon about my SDN Openflow lab (Once I get the controller to see the topo). Keep your eyes out.
