Company Payroll.. Is is a good option??

Hello Folks,

Is it good to work on payroll with IT company. My friend has been hired by an mid level IT firm on payroll, but would be working with their client which is one of the best IT firm. Is this option a good one. Will this be a problem for him in searching a permanent job for future? The project with IT firm is for around 2 yrs after which he will be deployed with another client, mentioned by his recruiter. Pls reply..

Having trouble understanding what you are implying. Is your friend into IT? Or is he into ACCOUNTING? Are you inquiring that your friend eventually jump ship to work for a bigger firm that is a client of his current firm?

Sounds like you mean that it's a contract. There are always good and bad to those for sure. Is there a limited scope on the project? A concrete end date? Would they keep him around afterwards, or will he be back to looking for another job after that is fulfilled? Contracts aren't bad to help a person gain experience to find a permanent job later on by any means. Experience is king and one needs to do what they have to gain that experience.

I personally am not a fan of contract jobs, but that is me. Some people love the changes and exposure to many different companies by going with contracts. Of course, your mileage may vary depending on the company and the duties involved.

Yup he is in IT. He got an offer from midlevel IT company but they are deploying him to their client company, which is a good branded company. So he will working with client company but employee of the recruiting company. Is it a good option for the career move?

Actually not purely contract... But they told him that after the completion of project, he will be the permanent employee of that recruiting firm and will be deployed to some other project. Although he also wants to work on direct roles, but here the client is very good.

Sounds like a good opportunity for him. It's good experience and so not really a 'contract' per se, but he'll be a permanent employee and working on projects that they get. I'd go for it since there would be more stability and he'd get to experience many different environments and can make good relationships with the company he'll be working with and could use that exposure to get a full time job with that company after that contract (depending on how their non-compete/no-hire deal is with that client. )

I think it is a good opportunity, but it depends on his situation as well. How much experience does he have? How old is he? How critical is it for him to have a permanent full-time job and benefits?

All in all, if there are no special conditions, it seems like a good move

He's around 3yr of experienced, currently employed with company on permanent role but looking for some better opportunity,

Sounds like the 'Employed Consultant Model' where he works for one at permie rates and gets pimped out by the mid-level for about 4-5 times that.
Worth sticking around 2-3 years for experience with different big name clients and doing his time, but would move on after that.

Yeah sounds like TEMP TO PERM. That's what recently happen to me. KForce pimp me out to CSC. CSC managers like me and after 6 months became Perm.
