CCNP or NA: Sec?

CheebahawkCheebahawk Member Posts: 16 ■□□□□□□□□□
So I have my CCNA R&S and had every intention of going straight for my CCNP R&S. However, I am wondering if I should go for CCNA: Sec before I go for my CCNP. I have my CCDA book as well, and will be doing that, but wanted to get my CCNP done first. I've been doing some thinking though, that it may be better to get my Sec test done first since it would be very useful to know firewalls, etc. better. What are your thoughts, and what direction did you take?

CCNA Security doesn't teach you much on firewall configuration. A lot of it is theory side, along with this program called CCP you'll never use. The CCNP Security is where they get into the goods...

Can't remember where I heard it now (might have been one of the CBT videos) but I stuck to this. Get your CCNA/CCNP R+S (which is the core of networks) and then specialise. Whether that is Voice, Security, Design etc. I guess it is all about where you are at the time, if your company is demanding a CCNA Security then sure go for that :)

Thanks for the replies, guys. I do have a need for a security cert, be it Sec+ or CCNA:Sec, I need to get one of them. So I think I will go CCNA:Sec --> CCNP R&S --> CCDA. That should get me to a good spot, then I can decide whether to go CCNP:Sec or CCDP. I will eventually go for both. CCIE scares me, but one of these years I will go for that as well lol.

No worries man, I woud definitely recommend CCNP either way though. I know what you mean about the CCIE. I don't know about you about you, but I've decided to gain more exp and certs before going for my IE number.
