Question about the n10-005 vs. n10-006 exam and your opinion.

So I am planning on taking my network + exam soon. I see that there's an option to take either one. Which one would be best for me to take or does it matter? This will be my first certification ever. I do not plan on taking A+ nor do I have experience in the computer work field. I want to start an entry level help desk job, so I want to o the network +.I have an AS: Compute Science degree as well.

The N10-005 exam expires on August 31 of this year. Therefore, what I did was, I purchased the ExamCram Network+ 4th Edition book along with the Mike Meyers 5th Edition book (for references) and started studying for the Network+ (N10-005). I figured since I have from now until the end of August (4 months from now) to take and pass the exam, I should be Network+ certified before the new (N10-006) exam fully kicks in. However, this of course depends on how fast you can study and schedule enough time for you to soak in the information on a timely manner. My recommendation to you, would be to start off with the A+ because as you stated, "nor do I have experience in the computer work field." The A+ starts the foundation of learning about computers and leads to other certifications, such as the Network+, Security+, and so on as well as experience. I too have an AS in Computer Science degree (two of them), but I wanted to start off with a foundation that will lead to other and more advanced IT certifications. Keep this in mind, there are a lot of companies that value the A+ more than they do the Network+ as I found out. For example, I have a friend that applied for a IT distribution company. When he got the interview, the manager informed him that he cannot hire him because he did not have his A+ certification. Despite my friend already having his Network+ and Security+ along with a BS in Computer Science degree and 10+ years' experience. He is now studying for his A+ and stated several times that he should have gotten the A+ certification a long time ago to avoid of what he went through. All I am saying is, you do not have to get your A+, you can skip all together. However, it would be a great idea to get it just in case if any employer requires for you to have it. Remember, this is my recommendations to you.
