Got a job!!

Got the call today. First interview was on March 27th, second was exactly a week later. Filled out the background check and took a drug test a couple days after the second interview. I can finally relax and stop stressing lol. I'm 31 and quit a good job in logistics last January, which I was moving up fast in, to reinvent myself. Took a big chance and signed up for college to just focus on being a full time student (thanks GI Bill). Started out in software development but changed my major to networking emphasis as it felt like a better fit for me.
I'll be working in the NOC for a big data center. From talking to all my professors it's one of the best places in town to work for and hard to get hired for. They all tell me that having this place on my resume opens up so many doors. I took advantage of an opportunity at school. There was an event called Speed Networking, like speed dating but for jobs and internships. You had 5 min to "sell yourself" and move on to the next interview. I guess I did good enough for the recruiter to keep my resume and call me up a week later for the actual interview which I only had an hour and a half to get dressed and drive over there unprepared lol.
Thanks to you guys and this forum for giving me insight on certifications. I actually passed Network+ the day before the event which I think gave me a slight edge. Finally got my foot in the door and there's no looking back from here!!

Anyone know much about data centers? I'm being told from all directions, even the 3 managers in the second interview, that there's tons of room for growth. Anyone start out in a place like this and move up? -
twodogs62 Member Posts: 393 ■■■□□□□□□□I started with programming and the first PCs being placed on desks.
Then moved to Helpdesk to get more experience with networking, etc.
We ran a U.S. And World Wide Helpdesk and datacenter.
I'd ask what shift are you working and overtime, etc?
Get a grasp of equipment and servers they. Power, AC, critical.
Stay positive, willing to help and show desire to learn.
Did they say you were Virtual, networking, SAN, Infrastructure, etc?
Congrats and good luck!!!! -

I worked in a data center for a year. From my experience it was very hardware focused w/ some networking. If you're interested in working in a data center and are interested in networking, I'd suggest getting your CCNA (or CCNA DC) 1st and try to start w/ a Networking-centric role in the data center and skip most of the hardware duties. Expect to see Nexus instead of IOS, however.Goals for 2018:
Certs: RHCSA, LFCS: Ubuntu, CNCF CKA, CNCF CKAD | AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect Pro, AWS Certified Security Specialist, GCP Professional Cloud Architect
Learn: Terraform, Kubernetes, Prometheus & Golang | Improve: Docker, Python Programming
