My motivation group

showintshowint Member Posts: 68 ■■□□□□□□□□
I'd like to develop this topic and put in a lot of details about my daily R&S studies in order not to go astray from my networking warrior's path, of course, with administrators' permission.

I feel an ardent desire to Networking since I've started working in a night shift tech support in quite a big ISP with several thousand switches at my disposal.

I'm very open to constructive criticism, useful suggestions etc. I'll also be glad for anyone who wishes to join me on this way.

Heartily yours, Me.

I started reading OSPF RFC 2328. And today I'm reading Section 9. I find it very helpful. I also saw this author's book in Internet which is called "OSPF: Anatomy of an Internet Routing Protocol". I'll probably skim through the book later.

I also learn Traditional Spanning Tree Protocol (CCNP Switch, Chapter 6) in parallel with OSPF, namely bridging loops, electing root bridge, root & designated ports, stp states, stp timers and topology changes. Afterwards I'll watch CCNP Switch INE - Spanning Tree Protocol. And tomorrow I will start STP Optimization video course and read CCNP Switch Simplified "Spanning Tree Protocol" -related chapter. And along with it I will lab all provided tips. But It will take some time.

BTW, I came across a book called "Internet Core Protocols: The Definitive Guide: Help for Network Administrators" this morning. I read 20 pages and look through its content, which seemed very informative to me. I think I'll keep on reading it.

One more interesting link on VLANs. http://rednectar.net/2012/03/11/the-access-vlan-is-dead-long-live-the-native-vlan/

That's it for the rest of the day.

I came across an interesting case of logs scrolling down over and over when I used debug spanning-tree all. I searched for its solution and could find only 2 pieces of advice: 1) type undebug all in advance in order to stop logging by just double arrow-up clicking + enter; 2) or set reload in 5 minutes in privileged mode, for example.

But all of it must be done in advance. So It's kind of trap for the inexperienced.

I wonder if there's a fixed period of time to complete reloading or not. I know I need to read about boot sequence , but not now.

Good luck to you. Working for a large ISP will probably provide a great experience for you. I started off in a similar fashion. My advice would be to jump on difficult topics that you might not fully understand, and don't be afraid to grab an issue if you don't fully understand.

Use that issue to learn more and deep dive. Higher ups and peers will see your enthusiasm and hard work and be more willing to assist you because of your work ethic. In your off-time just continue to develop a love and respect for the technology and that will help keep your motivation going. It could be money drive, earning respect, achieving goals, etc etc.. but find what it is that drives you and pedal to the metal :)

Use wireshark to examine what goes across the wire, or air, and I'd also suggest reading tcp/ip illustrated by Stevens.. after passing CCNA I read that and used wireshark in tandem and then everything fell into place and pushed me thru my NP. Cheers on your quest!!

In the early stages of becoming a specialist all that happens to you is burned into your memory. The same with me. You inspired me. Thanks to people like You young specialists don't give up and gradually become an expert in their field.

Mr. Brian, I appreciate Your moral support!

I've stopped posting for a while, becuase it takes much time to text all checked points. Therefore I came to the conclusion that I will summarize accomplished missions periodically :) And I will also share all the sources I use.
