CEH v8 Book Recommendation Request (June 2015)
I was wondering if anyone has updated book recommendations for v8. I'm just starting down my CEH study path, and haven't fully decided on a reference book. Up for consideration for me are CEH: Certified Ethical Hacker Version 8 Study Guide (Sybex) and CEH Certified Ethical Hacker Bundle, Second Edition (All-in-One by Matt Walker). Anyone used either of these than can comment. I have a decent security background, coming from more of a defensive point, but to learn the CEH materials...I'm looking to not waste time on a book that may just be "ok". The books wont be my sole learning materials, but I definitely will want some daily reading rather than only CBTs and labs.

photosnake Registered Users Posts: 1 ■□□□□□□□□□I have been reading and taking these tests over the last few weeks. I take the test on Friday. I have found several inconsistencies in the book, however. The largest surrounds the tcp.flags and Wireshark. He presumes it's based on hex and it's really base on octal math. I have used tcpdump & Wireshark for years and years and verified this. A few minor hiccups in answers not matching up with the explanations. I am going to the CyberNinja bootcamp and hope it gives me the boost I need to pass the test. I am still struggling on Crypto for some reason and don't have a working knowledge of some of the odder / older tools. Wish me luck.

I just got approved for self-study and planning on ordering this book if it helped pass the exam. -

I have heard nothing but good things about Matt Walker's book, but I used the one form Sybex (I'm biased, I've used Sybex for my CCNA, N+, S+, and now CEH). For me, the Sybex reads well - rather, I read the Sybex books well and have an "easier" time understanding the way things are worded/presented.
What also really helped me were digging through this site and finding these:

The flashcards were very helpful for me.
I also have no experience in InfoSec either. -

This book is used by the DoD with their resident courses. I'll be attending their course in a few weeks and this book is assigned to us. -
