I'm starting my new job on Monday. Definitely nervous! But also excited at the same time. I can't wait to get stuck in and finally be doing something I'm passionate about.
Again, thanks for all your advice! You've all been very helpful.

snowchick7669 Member Posts: 69 ■■■□□□□□□□Thanks guys! I'm really enjoying the new role, it's more compliance rather than anything technical. We deal with the auditing side etc, but the team next to me deal with the day to day monitoring of the systems and doing vulnerability assessments - so I have that to work towards. The team are all great and extremely helpful so I think I'm pretty lucky. Most of the guys have their CISSP and they're more than happy for me to shadow them/ask questions.
@UnixGuy - I'm about to sit my Sec+ and then I'm not sure whether I want to get my Linux+ (I need to learn it properly) or work on something like CEH. I think work would be willing to pay for certain certificates.
@Mike-Mike - I was a systems administrator, but I was mainly administering/supporting the finance/legal systems at my last place. Before that I was a Systems Engineer. I think the fact I've worked a lot with compliance/data protection act is what landed me this job -

UnixGuy Mod Posts: 4,570 ModI honestly don't recommend the Linux+ certification. Learn Linux and get as much hands work as you can. Install Linux and work on the material in the Linux+ syllabus in a practical way, but don't bother with it.
CEH is good (or not, the material is), have you considered eLearnSecurity? They seem practical. This is a thread I started: http://www.techexams.net/forums/off-topic/111731-elearn-security-pentesting-student-pts-v3.html
