Anyone notice they have a $50 VCA lab token, $200 - VMware vSphere 5.1 ICM Labs, and $200 - VMware vSphere 5.5 ICM labs now or "coming soon"? This looks pretty interesting.

Not only this but there is still the Free 70% off VCP Voucher as well. This voucher apparently does not even require an approved VMware course to test and receive the VCP designation.

Buying that voucher and passing that exam will not make you a VCP. The voucher is for the PSE exam, which is taken by students who have taken their training through a VMware IT Academy - you'd still need to actually do the training though.

It seems to me like those labs are just labs, not training - doing the labs would not qualify you for VCP, from what I could tell by the graphic you posted.

Scott, I've called the VMware Education "Certification Assistance" telephone number TWICE in the past and was told both times that purchasing this voucher as a WGU student and passing the exam would earn the VCP certification. TWICE. Now you are saying it doesn't. I wish VMware would figure this s*** out and stop jerking us around. The wording is vague to begin with. Couple that with misinformation coming from VMware Education department.... very frustrating.

The only exemption I'm aware of for any VCP exam is for VCP-NV for those holding CCNA or higher.

I haven't heard of WGU, but as they're a university I assume they are a VMware IT Academy partner, just like Stanly so often talked about on here - I can't see why WGU would have some sort of exemption and not other VITAs.

If you're a WGU student taking their vSphere ICM training, then yes passing the PSE exam would earn you the VCP - but for a WGU student studying something else, I don't see why any exemption would apply.

Scott, I have to disagree with you on this one. The VMware - wgudreamspark page specifically says it does not require a VMware- authorized training course because it is not a commercial offering.

The ICM labs are also labelled as VMware courses as well. If a student has to pay $200 for the ICM labs, then I am leaning that it may very well count toward VMware-authorized training. Time will tell on this part.

No VITA has a "commercial offering" - each one is an educational/academic institution, read through the posts on here from Stanly and you'll see they cannot offer training to companies, only to individuals.

VITAs offer courses that are the equivalent to those of VMware or a VATC - but over a term/semester rather than over 5 days, and VITA instructors are not VCIs so they've not gone through the same rigorous process to become a VMware instructor.

I believe you would still need to take their VITA non-commercial offering (perhaps the WGU "labs" offering includes training elements to make it similar to other VITA online offerings) as well as pass the exam in order to gain the VCP - for the reasons I stated in my previous reply.

The WGU page you're referring to looks like it is a copy/paste from the VMware Certification Marketplace website - the same website I linked to in one of my posts above which refers to the PSE exam.

Update: I've confirmed with VMware, several other individuals, and myself that if you use the VCP550PSE and VCP510PSE voucher you do not need to have an authorized VMware class to attain VCP-DCV certification.

It seems the PSE vouchers allow this exception due to self learning or 3rd party LMS (learning management systems) in place for academic institutions.

Basically the steps are:
0. Use the 70% discount voucher attained from an affiliated VMware - onthehub.com portal. Buy the voucher from VMware marketplace for ~$67.50
1. Schedule VCP550PSE or VCP510PSE exam by requesting authorization from VMware.com.
2. Take the test and Pass it.
3. VMware will update your respective mylearn account with passing the exam in 1-2 business days.
4. Less than 1 business day later they will update your certifications as VCP5-DCV.

Sources: I received information from a VMware Academic program manager, reddit, I tested it myself, and I've confirmed with other individuals.

I'm sure this will cause quite a controversy with the current "VMware way" but its true.

With it all being said I still recommend a VMware authorized course like stanly.edu or WGU's vSphere ICM lab/courses. Costs are $185 and $200 respectively. Well worth the hands on experience.

Any more info on these WGU's vSphere ICM lab/courses? I asked my mentor about it but she doesn't seem to know about it. Any specific department at WGU that I need to contact?

Hi noahp34. It seems wgudreamspark has pulled the VMware ICM lab/courses from onthehub.com. It was $200 per vSphere 5.1 and 5.5 ICM/VCP lab per picture in my original post. I recommend stanly.edu for the $185 vSphere 5.5 ICM course.

Hi, sorry for bumping this old thread. I just wanted to confirm that taking the exam using the PSE exam voucher is still valid and will get you VCP status. Does the IT Academy not need to submit your transcripts to VMware for you to get certified?
