Does Geek Squad experience from 5 years ago count for anything?

I’m currently in a business role, looking to switch to into IT. Right now I am studying for the CompTIA trio, and then want to do the MCSA for Server 2012 and MySQL 2012. My one problem is the always mysterious and elusive (for new people) “experience.” So right now I don’t do anything with IT in my professional capacity, but 4 years ago in college I did work for Best Buy’s Geeksquad. I did desktop support and also did remote access support, and had a little interaction with servers and networking (but only just a little).

Is that going to count for anything on a resume? I mean maybe if I still worked there and still did some level of tech support, sure. But it has been 4 years, it will probably be 5 by the time I am done with the entry level certs. I thought about finding a *really* entry level job in IT, going back to help desk or something, but I can’t afford to take that big of a pay cut.

So then, what are the chances of landing a job with just the certs and prior experience that is prior to my experience? What I am shooting for, position wise, is something like what Cerner has posted as a “entry/junior level” “Systems Engineer” role. (link: http://tinyurl.com/phq5geq)

You have to start somewhere, right? How long were you there? If you were there more than a year, I'd say leave it in.

    I was there 4 years.

To clarify: will that be enough to satisfy the "experience" that companies are looking for, or should I really move into another position pronto?

It might help, but not much. 5 years ago is a long time in IT time.
