Job dedication! How dedicated are you?

At my previous roles i was working in environments where i had to support users and hours varied. Often times i would go early and leave late. My current position however does not deal directly with users and my job depends on others in terms of accomplishing tasks thus by 4-5 I have nothing to do. With that said I now leave at 5 on the dot. I've been in this position for 4 months and have not had a review yet even though im FT. Do you think me leaving at 5 on the dot makes my manager think less of my dedication to the company? How do you guys feeling about leaving at 5 on the dot when your job tasks depend on other people delivering and are bottle necked by others?

kohr-ah Member Posts: 1,277Same as above. If my work is done then I go home at 5. I can only ask so much from others but I cant continue if they aren't doing their part.
Other days I leave later or work on the train home.
I am paid for 40 hours I work my 40 hours unless otherwise necessary. -

Pretty much. Nothing wrong with leaving when the work is done. If your boss has a problem with that it's probably a pretty crappy work place. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -
quickman007 Member Posts: 195We have to leave at 5 where I am. There's about 90% downtime most days so I could leave at 10AM and not miss much.

xD Lucas Member Posts: 107That's a big problem in America. You stay over once or twice, then your manager (usually a terrible one, anyway) expects you to stay late everyday. Unless you work some type of emergency services or vital position (when I say vital, I mean law enforcement, first aid, etc.; Help Desk Support isn't vital), I couldn't imagine there's a good reason to be working overtime.2015 Objectives: MTA: 98-349 ✔ → CompTIA A+ ✔ → CompTIA Network+ → CompTIA Security+

kurosaki00 Member Posts: 973I'm pretty dedicated to my work... I usually go beyond expected.
For some reason I consider my job my own thing, I take ownership n stuff. Like if something goes down I literally feel stress and responsibility.
Had one job that I reduced ticket wait time by 80%
Previous job I was 2nd place in overtime totals in the company, from 2013-2014 I had 60% (avg) more tickets than anyone else.
I know I need to chill more...
I think I just feel I'm still not good enough, like I need more knowledge and stuff done so I can feel at a certain level.meh -
E Double U Member Posts: 2,233 ■■■■■■■■■■I start work anywhere between 5 - 6am so I only work later than 4pm if something is happening that impacts critical business functions. If I already left for the day and get a call from the CISO, I stick to my schedule of taking the boys to the park and getting food. Once my wife is home then I will log in again, but that doesn't happen often at all. If I need to go back to the office (very rare) then it has to wait until we put the boys to bed.Alphabet soup from (ISC)2, ISACA, GIAC, EC-Council, Microsoft, ITIL, Cisco, Scrum, CompTIA, AWS
