How do I get into Database Administration? Should I go for the B.S Management Information Systems and database certifications?

    What you need is to get your hands on some database administration duties at work. A relevant cert will help, but actual experience will help the most. Try to shadow some DBs at work, offer to perform any related grunt work, learn on your own, install your desired type of DB on a few VMs, break them - these are a few ways to go about things. Gotta think outside the box.

    Look for a data analyst position and move your way into the database side. That would be my suggestion
