Cert Bug is gone

JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,093 AdminI feel the exact same way right now. I should be working towards CISSP, but I have had 0 motivation since finishing my masters in May.
After finishing my Masters, I was going to immediately jump on several certs that I had been putting off--including the CISSP. However, my brain had other ideas and I ended up vegging for several months doing nothing but playing computer games. Nearly three straight years of researching and writing had to give way to mindless entertainment for a while before my brain would pick up another intellectual challenge. -
Dakinggamer87 Member Posts: 4,016 ■■■■■■■■□□I have also slowed down on certs dramatically as many other members have mentioned. My drive to get certs is draining but at the same time I feel content with what I have accomplished. I'm also getting busier so it's important to balance the personal/work professional life amongst it all.
I spend more of my free time hours gaming, at the gym, traveling, reading, and preaching sermons at my church which I love to do and enjoy as well as with family/friends. Life is very short and money will come and go so I rather spend it being happy. I still value certs and the knowledge that have helped me grow and develop my skills in my career and will continue to do so down the road. My education of finishing my degrees are the only major milestones I'm working towards to add value to my resume. So certifications unless required by my employer to be renewed or completed will be taking a rest indefinitely....
I love learning new things but can still learn on the job as well as from reading/studying topics of my interest just doesn't have to have a certification attached to it.

beads Member Posts: 1,533 ■■■■■■■■■□Depends on two things: one your experience level and two your job prospects. Personally I am in cruise mode. Another cert or two isn't going to change my career path any and unless I am really interested in the punishment - not going to be appealing to me. Now, that doesn't mean I am done learning or anything of the sort. Just means I probably won't see any real gain from yet another cert. The ISACA stuff might do for fun and to help them out. My cert exercise wheel is slowing. - b/eads

Chivalry1 Member Posts: 569Good Thread. I always enjoyed learning. I have slowed in regards to the Cert numbers seeking. PMP or Redhat certification is the only material I on occasion read. Perhaps maybe one of the Cissp concentrations (ISSAP). Beyond that I am on cruise control. clouder Member Posts: 84 ■■□□□□□□□□I'm out of it as well. I really lost my motivation after CISSP until I had to take the VCP delta exam to keep my cert from lapsing. I do need to get cracking on NetApp stuff at some point, though.

This is exactly what I am going through right now. Hopefully it wont take me that long to get back into the swing of things and get the CISSP done.
