Proverbs 6:6-11Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you slumber, O sluggard?
When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep, So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler And your need like an armed man.

Wait, what? Pulls back from phone business? I thought that they were releasing the Windows 10 phone soon and it was supposed to finally compete with iOS and Android. wtf icon_scratch.gif

Not really surprising. They were in a losing war and their mobile OS was going bye bye.

From what I read, I don't think they're pulling out completely.

Just goes to show you ladies and gents, no job is safe. No matter if you have a degree or not, certs or not, or if you work for a huge company like Microsoft. Keep your skills sharp and be the best "you" that you can be.

And also don't work at a section of a company that is losing millions of dollars ;)

Let's be honest, this doesn't really matter. At any time, any companies department can lose millions of dollars.

I mean anyone that worked on Windows phone had to know they were fighting a losing battle right? I know I certainly wouldn't feel safe working in that division. Maybe I'm just smarter than the average bear.....

Good example of the popular technology winning again (IOS and Android), even if the other products had high potential. I'm also looking at you Palm..lol.

No, it makes sense. I just don't think that anyone can actually predict it. You think anyone in the last Microsoft layoff was predicting it?

Since they were going to integrate Android into their phones, they should help develop software with them to take down iOS.

I know for sure other Mobile companies are going to be fighting over them. Like getting Soldiers from the enemy camp. Samsung, Apple, Black berry, LG, Sony. Alot of them might be able to find employment else where.

Just more info on the cuts:

"The bulk of the cuts will come from offices in Finland and Brazil, but include at least 129 people from a San Diego office that's being closed, according to a person familiar with the plans. Among the San Diego layoffs coming by summer's end are 28 senior software development engineers, 18 senior program managers and seven senior hardware engineers, Microsoft said in a state filing"

Zune was overpriced, but it was ahead of the game. They had the subscription based model way back. If automakers had embraced the Zune like the iPod, it could have been a real contender.

At this point the subscription model is the future (more like the present), but Microsoft had that model way back

I wonder what type of compensation package the employees are going to be getting.

Microsoft is going to buy Blackberry. I talked to my buddy Bill, and he confirmed it. Apology letters will go out to all the employees, along with a Microsoft sticker.

Microsoft needs to attack the business market from their mobile phone division. Think of how useful a domain controlled, bitlocker capable, office 365, docking station enabled cell phone could do for the business world.. Am I just crazy and I think they could call it the sPhone short for Surface Phone icon_lol.gif If only the battery market would catch up to handle that kind of computing power.

This would also help push companies to move their ADDS to the Azure cloud. Win win for MSFT.

Microsoft's phone division is not being phased out. The 7,800 employees will come from various divisions within the company. Microsoft is planning to create a more focused product line and stopped flooding the market with similar phones (Lumia 430, 435, 535, 532, 635, etc -- all low budget models). They're moving towards a model where they focus on budget, business & flagships.
