Just passed ACE (AccessData Certified Examiner)

Just passed the exam on my 2nd attempt. I didn't have access to the full FTK, just FTK Imager so I had to guess a couple of answers unfortunately, but hey, a pass is a pass. Does anyone know if AME (AccessData Mobile Examiner) is still free?? I cannot find it anywhere!
I'm going to do a 2.5 year MSc in Security and Forensics starting in September, so along with my BSc in Forensics, i'm hoping I can make a push towards a career within forensics. Currently waiting on my ITIL results which I did through my workplace, but they've taken a week and still nothing yet

BlackBeret Member Posts: 683 ■■■■■□□□□□Congrats! I remember when I took ACE. I was able to choose which version of FTK I was running, and 1.* was available at the time with a 30day trial, so I went with that and was able to do all of the exercises. No luck when I went to renew it a year later, so I let it fall off.

It lasts for 2 years now, but I'm told that AccessData products aren't as popular as EnCase, perhaps that's why this is a free cert. -
BlackBeret Member Posts: 683 ■■■■■□□□□□It just depends. A large chunk of the EnCase clients are gov. The private companies I worked for used FTK, federal used EnCase or X-ways. Once you have the basics of forensics you can learn the different tools easy enough.

I picked it up in december. I was afraid it would be super simple due to it being a free exam. There were definitely some questions on there that challenged me (forensics != my forte), so I found it enjoyable. -

Could you maybe elaborate a bit your preparation techniques and tactics? What to install and test and such??
Any books and/or guides? i saw the free study guide here already; https://www.syntricate.com/computer-forensics-certification.html
thanks a lot !

Thanks for the link fuz1on; this is next on my list. -
Burnsie Member Posts: 84 ■■□□□□□□□□Yes, AME is still free and should be accessible through the same login for ACE. I will tell you that it does require the software to pass. About two thirds of the exam consisted of questions relating to the sample images being access through the software. I can't imagine being able to guess your way through that portion.
Same rules apply to the AME: Two free attempts in six months.

In the past they had a trial program that could be used, but that was stopped. Earlier in 2015 they announced the "Test Drive" option which was a 20 day free trial, but that has disappeared from their website. It just results in a 404 error now:
Document talking about Test Drive:
http://accessdata.com/assets/pdfs/press-releases/2_15_-_DEMO_Program.pdf
Test Drive URL:
http://www.accessdata.com/test-drive
Other than those two options, there isn't any other way to get the software. I had access to it through UMUC and the respective computer forensic classes. It may be worth giving AD's sales people a call and asking about the Test Drive program.
